Welcome Summer with a Timeless Basket Arrangement for Your Front Door
Summer is the perfect season to refresh your front door and welcome guests . A basket filled with lush greenery, vibrant florals, and a cheerful bow is a simple yet stunning way to boost your home’s curb appeal.
Materials Needed:
Woven basket (flat-backed baskets are ideal for doors) Hobby Lobby and Michaels have a variety of shapes and sizes.
Floral styrofoam block
Assorted artificial greenery (such as ferns, eucalyptus, or ivy)
Faux summer blooms or berries (I kept mine neutral with a hint of white blossoms)
Simple ribbon bow (wired ribbon is best for the bow to hold its shape)
Floral wire
Wire cutters
Step-by-Step Guide:
1. Select and Prepare Your Basket - Choose a basket that complements your door and is sturdy enough to hold your arrangement. (Flat-backed baskets work best, as they hang flush and are less likely to shift in the wind.)
2. Insert the Floral Foam - Cut the floral styrofoam block to fit snugly inside your basket. Tuck it securely in the base of your basket.
3. Arrange the Greenery - Begin by inserting stems of greenery into the foam to create a full, lush base that spills slightly over the edges. Think height in the center, a different tall greenery on either side (I used ferns) and a shorter trailing mix in front. (I used another smaller fern variation here). A variety of greenery types in coordinating colors and lengths gives a natural, layered effect.
4. Add Summer Florals - Add your berries or blooms next, placing larger blooms in the center and smaller ones around the edges. (I have a weird aversion to too much color on my door - lol - so I opted for some leggy white and green blooms that I mixed in at varying heights.) If you are wanting more color, faux peonies, ranunculus, tulips or hydrangeas would be pretty here. Mix colors and textures for a vibrant summer vibe, adjusting the stems until you’re happy with the look.
5. Attach the Bow - Tie a large, wired ribbon bow and secure it to the front or side of the basket using floral wire. (I wired my bow to a wooden pick and stuck it securely inside the basket.) Choose a color and pattern that complements your flowers and adds a cheerful finishing touch.
6. Hang Your Basket - Hang your finished basket on your front door using a sturdy hook or ribbon and enjoy!
Tips for Maximum Curb Appeal:
Opt for weather-resistant materials if your door is exposed to the elements.
You can change out flowers and ribbon colors as the seasons change for year-round versatility.
Add a small monogram on the bow for a personalized touch.
